Arter the ceremonies consequent upon the prorogation of the Legislature had been concluded last evening, the volunteers returned to the Drill Shed where the prizes won by the Garrison Artillery last year were presented by Brigade Major Irving. Detachments of the Eagineers and No. 3 Company, 82nd Battalion were also pre- sented. Before the presentation, he briefly addressed the men, complimenting them highly. Heo remarked that in artillery matters, the Island has always been the premier province, and this year their noble efforts had been well seconded by the Engineers. He regretted that there was not some competitive examination in which the infantry might take part. He then presented the prizes as follows: — Capt. Passmore, on behalf of No, 1 Co. Artillery, was presented with a handsome oak cup, mounted with silver, as Ist prize for shifting ordinance, [Capt. Moore’s Co,, No. 2, won secord prize for shifting ordinance ($20) but the money has not yet arrived. | Capt. Moore, on behalt of No. 2 Co. The Moncton Times says: It appears from questions put by Mr. Davies to Mr. Pottinger in the Inch Arran enquiry that Mr. Davies feared that Mr. Saagster’s table linen had been stolen by the Govern- ernment for use at Inch Arran. It is sat- isfactory to know that Mr. Davies’ fears were ungrounded. If it uad appeared that the Government was given to larceny of table linen it wonld not have been safe to leave a washing out over night. We there- fore heartily congratulate the country on the most important result of the Inch Arran investigation so far, namely, the demonstration of the fact that the Govern- ment is uot in the habit of robbing clothes lines, but practices some more konest method of obtaining a change of linen. Cormier deserves well of his countrymen for being the means of inducing Davies to quiet public alarm by bringing this great end important fact to the knowledge of all the people. eee Weather Puiletin Probabilities for the next 24 hours fo- the Varitime Provinces.
