I "3 Derek Key. The Executive that I have wrked with this year has expressed their desire that Icontinue as President. ' The old executive is con— cerned-that such things as Reht Control decisions, hening Lounge hours, Burs— 'ny fund and so on will not be extended to ensure even agreater improvement over he previous year. " It is my belief that the mmcutive ofl Derek’Key, Pmfl.Currie, Alan O'Keefe, @rald McKenna and Elisabeth mmke have, on the whole, Men a good-executive; in het, one of our most prod— Imtive. We have paid our d @bts and yet we are still. Mightly above the deficit Ede on our budget. I want mis to continue and'I‘need Your help.‘ ~ ' .Never before has a pres— tht offered for the pos— ifion more than once. I fe91 that my experience this Van can help the new exec- “five and that with a new Mrong and devoted executive wecan do even more of those ttmugs that will benefit the Stl“lent union. I have ser- vedon Senate since my fresh- mmlyear, a member of the gJ-C. and a councillor slnce 1974. Hopefully with myeXperience and with the Q? and new ideas of the executive members, we _1 have a good student ion again.next year. ’ M, ;,'2 ' QeIER Key -If elected I will, throu- out the duration of my tenure, strive to central- ize the student union. Bu physically grouping~the v various student union; offices and placing them into one central‘location= on campus, the UPEISU will achieve a better sense of ' ' entityand identity 935152 and 22225252» the condition of which i feel is deteriorating. ‘This is the first major step in achieving a close knit stu— dent body,-and better stu— dent life. I I feel I can create a c constructive and open envi— ronment in which the student union executive and students can govern progressively, and harmoniously for the abenifit of the student. George McGibbon Jofk Hanley I feel that lack of stu— dent involvement on the social level has reached a critical stage. For ex~ ample, the average atten— dance at class meetings ranges between ten and fifteen people, which is ‘ -obviously far too low. So basically, I think the student union should devote it's efforts to not only trying to get more people involved, but also to find out why people are_present— 1y reluctant to get invol—— ved—— then do something a about it. One way of do— ing this is to take the Student Union to the stud— ents.arFor instance, for 'the‘first thing, the .Student Union could go directly to the students and conduct an intensive, well-organi zed survey to ’, get information on what the students want. As for qualifications, I worked for two years”"in‘. the world." Also I've been a member of Campus Police for three years, a and President of Blanchard 'Hall House Committee. Students must be given a chance to get involved in what they want, not what is already organ— ized. I am going to listen to students -something ” which needs to be done around here. If elected, students will be infomed of the.act— ivities that are taking place on campus —-in Senate, on the Board, in Council, etc. I will do this by per— sonally speaking to then and by involving other reps, I will meet the student on his own ground, at the Barn, in residence, or where/he. lives. I will also contribute to the Cadre and go on radio each week. _ I‘an qualified for being president because of my in- volnement in student union activities, serving on var— ious committees of council, Provincial Loan Board, Sen— ' ate sub-committees and Board of Governors.'l am now serving on the committee to search for the new pres- ident. When elected, I will be able to work egfectively with this person because I will already have got to . know him. Next year I will be a graduate student and will only be taking three courses and will put all of my efforts into Student Council; Char ~ p A president a " easq .YY€£.Vr.d93'.szbss oar I» It is time that the stu— “, 'dent union act as a union. 1: Student rights, which have 3. been ignored in many inst— O ances, are best served by " collective action which can only be effective with 'an involved leadership. Such action is possible, whether it be in the area of the justified complaint- of resident students or the general lack of real student involvement in the determination of such im— portant issues as curricu: lum and staffing policies. The long—discussed anti— calendar would be a top priority with me. Accessability should be a prime prerequisite of a any executive. Were I to become president, I would not allow the student unio union to function in the aloof manner to which stu— dents have been accustomed to in the past year. As President, I would accept ghat I am a representativ- 'UanQ AJJDT A950 of the membership of the Union, and it's your Union!
