Rev. .l.A suitivan. After the official cere- monies. the Varsity basketball team hosted St. Mary's Un"ver- sity in a scheduled Maritime In- teri-olleglale Conference name. Last night, of course. was thl. Carnival Ball. and the crowning of the Carnival Queen by la st _w-:ir's oueen. Mary Dnnavan. The next four days are jam- packed with every sort of con- test. game. and event that the (‘arnival Comm’ttee was able to think up. On top of these. there are the Varsity games, the Variety Show. the parade. the St Dunstan‘: Day celebrations, sock hops, and of course. th e New Christy Minstrels. The Chrlsty Minstrels hardly need introduction. Besldes their many hit records. they are known for their popular Phbiic appearances. much like the show Cll Winter Good Start Viously. it is high time that BAND AT MORELL The St. Dunstan‘s band. under president Basil Haire, took part in the Centennial Sportsmen’s dinner held in Morell on Wed- nesday._ This Sportsmen‘: 4 in . net‘. which is one of the biggest affairs of the year in Morell, featured Mr. Maurice ‘The Roc- ket ' Richard. The Rocket at- tended several functions in the Village and the Band had ti: e honor of supplying part of the entertainment. By all reports. the venture was a resounding success and the kids had th e time of their lives with Rocket. The Morell deserves much gratitude for their fine work in this fund-rals- project. The snow sculptures built by each class on the campus are really worth seeing, and attend- ing functions as the I-lootenanny and the Student-Faculty basket- ball game are once- in- a- life- time experiences. ‘RED AND WHITE’ RAPPED The latest issue of “Red and White" has come off the press this week, bringing the number of issues put out this year to the grand total of three. The first two copies were considered by the students. to be charitable. as very poor. The consenus on this latest effort is. to be more than charitable, terrible. "It's a '1‘ said paper it's printed on." added an- r e . Are these just outlandish re- marks by the campus pessimists or is there some truth to the statements? Well. the best way of finding out is to list at least some of the reasons why the pa- per is considered to be so bad. For one thing. there is no sport page. For another. there is no news. whatsoever. besides a bit on the Winter Carnival, which is seen and heard so much around the campus that the students have it memorized. For another reason. there is no editorial page the bloodstream of any newspa- per. The obvious question then aris- es: Just what was thcre in the 1'9 paper? Frankly. nothing. Oh. there were some pictures. a few articles. ads. and Winter, Carni- val news that was really not news at all. but there simply was nothing in it that had not been printed in the Carnival pro- grams. Apparently someone got the notion that this edition would be the Carnival issue. to be dis- tributed free as part of the ad- vertising program. As lt turned out. there were so many typo- graphical errors in it that the committee scratched the idea. And to think that a University of some 500 students can publish only three school papers in five months while other universities have weekly editions, why th e very thought is deplorable. on iiatinn really boils down to this: in five aames played this year. the Saints have won only one came for a meagre two no'nts. There are only 6 games remain- ing in the schedule from here on in. so the picture doesn't look exactly rosy. Varsity coach Jack Kane leads the hockey Saints down the backstretch of the Maritime Intercollegiate Hockey League this afternoon when the Saints host the St. Mary's Huskies.
