The British scientists have arrived at Winnipeg, homeward bound The Times, a Montreal English Libera! paper, appeared on Saturday. The total export of cattle this season to date from Montreal is 39,053 head. The Czar has been particularly affable to the Poles during his visit to Warsaw. Kilmarnock, Scotland, has been holding a large franchise bill demonstration. A Jamaican delegate will shortly visit Ottawa to discuss the trade matters. The most severe depression felt fur years is reported in the English cotton districts. The franchise agitation is said to be in- creasing-in virulence every day in England. It is stated that the Irish party will vote with the Conservatives on the Franchise Bill. Captain Renard has been making an un- successful experiment with his airship at Paris. Rai'way service between Naples and Toulon has ceased, with the exception of mail trains. There is a rumor that the meeting of the Emperors is uot entirely unconnected with Evyptian affairs. The Queen has sent a message of con- dolence io the Queen of Italy on the ravages of cholera. Negotiations with England for a treaty of commerce have been resumed by the Spanish authorities. Mr. William Moir, the registrar of deeds at Guysboro, dropped dead on Sunday, while on his way to church. Every Mnssulman is entitled to four wives and no more. The Sultan is the only map who is not bound by this rule. Every year on his birthday he is presented witha new wife—a sort of annual reminder, as it were, of the vanity of the position. Papers throughout the United States are discussing the claims to social superiority of Mr. Morosini, who began life as a fore- mast hand on a schooner, or Mr. Schelling, who has arrived at the dignity of a private coachman.
