At the last evening’s session of the
Liquor Regulation Act passed its
second reading, was referred to com-
mittee of the whole and some import-
ant amendments madei Among other
things the penalties for treating were
made not less than $2, nor more
than $5. The clause relating to
clubs, the clause relating to females
being employed or permitted where
liquor is sold, the clause giving one
sscutcr and the clause forbidding the
sale of oysters and cigars- in liquor
saloons were all struck out. Sale will
be permitted on market days down
to 7 o’clock instead of four o’clock as
inthe original bill. In other words
the bill was utterly smasculated in
the interest of the liquor dealers. to
porters appear to have made a. full
and abject surrender! _ - I

ritories declare that 72 per cent of the
crime coming before them in the form
of prisoners in their jails is caused _by
_strong drink l In the _prohibition
states the same cause is not- set down
as causing 37 per cent of the crime.
Is it not a terrible. but most con-
