Prince Edward Island has been raising Silver Black Foxes
since 1877. V
In 1910 a large shipment of Silver Black Fox fpelts was sent
to Lampson & Co of London and the average price realized was
about $1,400 per skin. ‘
In 1909-1,827,000 Fox Skins were marketed, of which only
4300 were Silver Blacks. The best grades came from Prince
Edward Island.
It will take from 15 to 20 fyears to supply the market with as
many peits as was (procured ro_m the wiids ten years ago. The
wealth of the wori is increasing the demand for furs every
year. f -
Present prices of P. E. I. pedigrced live Silver.Black Foxes
range from $15,000 to $30000 per pair. ‘ _
A pair of extra choice breeders with a big producing record,
sold in 1913 for $32,500, and another, pair of reeders and their
first litter of four pups, were sold in 1913 for $51,000.
The average life_ of _the Silver Black fox is from 10 to 12 years
and the size of the litter runs from 2 to 7 pups, the average being
3 1-2 to each ranch female. _
Investors all over the world are waking up to the possibilities
of fur farming, and that P. E. Island with only 1,602 pure bred Sii~
yer Black Foxes cannot supply the demand, hence the high and
increasing prices for breeding_animals.' '
The profits divided among investors in P. E. Island ranches in
1913 aggregag over $3,000,000 according to the Givemment Re-
port for the y r ended 31st December, 1 13. _- _
So great is the demand for Silver' Black Fox fur that' even if
eve available peiton Prince 'Edward Island was placed onthe
a two hour demand
Lon on market today there would not be sudicient supply to lheet
