A two- year- Job of lengthening and re- capping the runways by Curran and Briggs, Ltd._wil1 probably come to an end the latter part of this month. Runways on the sta- tion are now long enough to take the largest aircraft now in serv- ice. One runway is 6,000 feet in length, one is 5.800 feet and the third is 5,000 feet. All have been recapped with a layer of asphalt and three con- crete buttons, each 200 feet long and the width of the runways, have been constructed to enable let aircraft to operate hers. All of the asphalt work is completed and the laying of cement will be done this week. Only a small amount of grading will then remain to be done. Curran and Briggs. Ltd. are now working on a new and much smaller contract paving all the streets of the air station with as- phalt and laying sidewalks of the same material. The entrance road from the gate to the main high- way which is already paved in being recapped. The paving of the streets and sidewalks will be an important improvement to the station, particularly in the spring when they used to become pretty muddy.
