Richards, met with a severe ac cident, Richmond Station, on Saturday last, while superintending the unloading of an iron mast from the cars. John Yeo. - The tramp has lately beon seeking fresh scenes and pastures new It is stated that he visited Summerside a few nights ago, and pat up at the Ucean House. During the night the landlady woke up to the fact tha there was a man in the rcom,—and rais d an alarm. The tramp vanished, but did not leave the house until he had first paid a visit to the room of the servant girl. Then there was a lively time im the Ocean House; but the tramp escaped in the darkness. On searching his room a mask, apparently of his own manufacture, was found in his bed. It is an ex raordinary piece of workmanship—highly prized, no doubt: and the proprietor of the ‘Ocean House” aonounces that the owner may have it ‘on appli-ation.” Should it not be called for, it will probably be exhibited at the Apothecarics Hall or some other place of pub- lic resort. ~~ —— Ar the Y. General Delisle sends a despatch stating that, hearing that the Chinese troops be- tween Baicle and Langsono were moving forward, he took measures to drive them hack into ginboats, A brilliant engage- ment ensued, four thousand Chinese troops being pitted against him, Commander Chalie, of the Massue, was killed in the heht. Neguer is massing troops to march agaiost the Chinese in Tonquin, and an engagement is soon expected, The Egyptian Situation. Lonpon, Oct. 6. Council has been suddenly for Tuesday next. It is re- ported that the Council is called to consider the position that has been taken in Egyptian affairs. It is believed that there is a basis of truth in the reported recall of Gen. Lord Wolseley. He will go* as far as A Cabinet summoned Dongola; but the expeditlon up the Nile will be abandoned if communication is open by Gen. Gordon’s co-operation. Gen. Wapy Hatra, Oct. 3, Messengers reports that Gen Gordon has returned to Khartoum. The robatal tribe dispersed on hearing of the death of their leader in the battle of Kertiz. Gen. Wolseley is here and is reported to remain sometime, at Loggerheads. Statesmen Lonpon, Oct. 5. Mr. Gladstone and Lord Salisbury fail to agree. Gladstoné absolutely refused to entertain a proposition to introduce the re- distribution bill in the House of Commons, before the House of Lords should pass the Franchise Bill. A Surrender. Dvesuin, Oct. 5. A report here says the actress Miss Fortescue receives $125,000 and surrenders the letters in her possession, including those of Lord Cairns. Lord Garmogle re. fused to submit to cross examinations by Counsellor Russell. — Great Fire. PHILADELPHIA, Oct. 5, A fire occurred here to-day, burning Heacock’s storage warehouse, Crown street.
