Destructive fires in Pennsylvania are threatening the safety of several towns. At Morrison, in the Sinnamahomery Valley, a railroad train with seventy-five men had been fighting fire, but were finally forced to retreat, They boarded tha train and start- ed for another point, when they found themselves hemmed in between the fire on one side and huge ways of logs on the other. Finally they decided to dash past the ways, but forgot that the terrific heat would spread the rails. When opposite millions of feet of burning logs, where the heat and smoke were greatest, the train lurched and toppl- ed over into the fire beneath. The cars caught fire and the men struggled fearfully to escape from being roasted. It is impos- sible to describe the scene in its full de- tails. The superintendent of the road, who was ia charge of the relief train, was burned to death, and six others are known to be dead, while thirty are so bodly burned that many of them will probably die. At aconference held yesterday in Lon- don of the McCarthyite members of Par- liament, it was resolved to call conventions throughout Ireland. A resolution was ad- opted to the effect that since Mr. Parnell refused to comply with all suggestions as to the release of the Paris funds, his col- leagues are led to believe] him opposed to applying these funds tv the relief of the evicted tenants.
