The Canadian Girls In Training of the 0'Leary United Church held their regular weekly n sting at the church on Friday night, April sth. Despite a torrential downpour of rain. there was a fine attendance. The worship service was led by Gertrude Sheltoon. Margaret Wood- ridge read a missionary reading on Korea. The business meeting was presided over by Freda Strong. The two leaders. Mrs. W. 0. Dick- son and Mrs. Herbert Vatcher were in attendance. Games were en- joyed and the meetin closed with "Taps". Miss Marcia Pate has recently returned from New Glasgow, NS. While there she took a special Leadership Training Course under the auspices of Trinity United Church in New Glasgow, entitled "Teachers of Religion" and receiv- ed her diploma from the Christian Education Department of the Un- ited Church in Toronto. Miss Pate is a qualified instructress in the Red Cross Water and Safety Swimming course and for the past several summe a has taught swim- ming and water safety under the Red Cross auspices to students of O'Leary and vicinity at the Mill River. many of them securing cer- tificates for proficiency in swim- ming. Mlss Pate has received in- vitations from the C.G.I.T. camp at Chance Harbour. near New Glasgow. N. 8.. and also from the C.G.I.T. camps of Cape Breton at Bras d'0r during July to teach swimming and wdter safety. She served in the C. W. A. C. during World War II and on her return from service opened up modern, up-to-date cabins at O'Leary. She is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Pet- er Pste of O'l.eary.
