Word has reccuiiy been received from California of the death of Mal- colm Martin who died there after an illness of one day. He was sixty seven year; of agc. He was a bro- ther Oi Mr. Martin Martin of Southport and the late m. Angus E. Martin oi Mt. Buchanan. The same dispatch contained the news of the death oi h's sister Kate Anh who died from thc result of an accident. She was a widowed lady and the writer has not her correct name at the time oi writing. News has also been received by friends here of the death in Chicago of Capt. Donald MacRae. In early life he was a sea captain and in later years was employed by. the Edson Electric 00.. in Chicago. The late Capt. Maciftae was born at Ponds. Pinneic. about eighty years ago. He was one oi the successful Islanders abroad in every sense of the word but there was no place he liked better to spend his vacation than at his old home on P. E. I. and al- ways did so while his health al- lowed him. He had an unusually pleasing personality and neghbors and fiends always benefited by his visits. His wife predeceased him some years ago. He is survived by one daughter Dr. Florence who practices medicine in Chicago ‘and several sisters and brothers to whom sympathy is expressed at the present. Mr. Alex D. Friends in the city have learned with regret of the death of Colonel J. D. Irving of Annan, Dumffles‘ Scotland, who was a former resi. dent of this city. Colonel Irving, who had reached the advanced age of 69 years, at one tmc held the pcstion of clerk of thc CrownJI-Ie occupied the house formerly owned by thc late James Pope and now being used as a residence for Dr. J.A. Clark, Su- perintendent of the Experimental Farm. Colonel Irving was a most enthus- iastic artillery man and was District Officer Commanding in Prince Ed- ward Island when this province was a separate mlitary district. The late Colonel Moore subsequently held a similar position. Colonel Irving left Charlottetown for Halifax about 189i and was in command of the district there before his retirement. He spent hs remaining years in his ancestral home in Scotland. Colonel Irving wasa true gentle- man oi the old school oi splendid physique and fine mlitary bearing. a man of the highest integrity, and in cvcry respect an excellent citizen.
