IN _MEMORIAM
One of Cllarlotltetown's oldest an-l
nost respected residents has passed
iwrly, in the person of Mr. John Hen-
'y Gates. who had attained the very
Hiipe old age of 94 years. He was a
1 latlve of London, England, and was
'Jorn on January 5, 1825. He was a
Lrlan of remarkable vitality and pre-
isrved his faculties almost unimpair-
ed to the end. On Thursday he was
iut driving as usual. enjoying la form
if recreation of which he had been
“ond from his youth up. and in the
lfternoon was about town as usual.
About an hour after retiring, he
lwakened and complained to his wife
if a slight pain in the region of his
heart, also of a smotherlng feeling.
_ Two hours later, his spirit peacefully
passed away.
T-he late Mr. Gates came to P. E
'sland with his parents as a boy and
had resided in Charlottetown for up
wards of four score years. The most
nemorable incident in connection with
. his life was his voyage in the famous
brig "Polly," which left llere with a
lumber of stalwart young Islanders
