At the meeting of the City Counci', beld last eveving,— The petition of Messrs. Rattenbury for exemption from taxation for five years in respect to their proposed packing> Louse aod premises, was gravted. A letter frem the executive mittee of tle Temperance Alliance asking jor re-payment of the salary of Matthews, the proseeutor, was read ard laid upon the table. In this connection it vas shown that during March Warren had obtained no coivictions under the Scott Act, while Matthews had obtained eight convictions out of fifteen proseeutions. It was resolved to apply to the Jegisla- ture for power to authorize the School Trustees to issue $38,000 worth of new debentures to retire those coming due. A re olu ion was also passed asking the Council w apply to the Legislature for power to increase the tax on banks doing business in the city from $50 to $250 each ; also to applv to the Legislature for power to tax bicycles $2 each, and make regulations for the use of the same. A resolution was passed authorizing application to the Legis/ature for an amendment tothe Act of Incurporation, providing for the election of all the Coun- cillors by all the elector: of the city, and the payment to each Councillor of $100 per anoum, Notice of a resolution to authorize the construction of a sewer on Queen Street, from the City Building to Queen’s Wharf, was given by Councillor Haghes.
