BIRD REPORT Common Loon — 4 at Fernwood on June 13 (MLM). Northern Gannet — l at North Cape on Aug. 25 (WEC, DW); a banded adult was found in weakened condition on the beach at Blooming Point on Aug. 29 (GH). Canada Goose — about 80 at Orwell on Aug. 26 are the first report for this fall (JW); 46 at Indian River on Sept. 3 are the first for that area (TC). Common Eider - 9 at North Cape on Aug. 25 (WEC,DW); approximately 40 at Cape Tryon on Aug. 30 (all males in eclipse plumage, possibly some females as well)(GH). Bald Eagle - l at Miscouche swamp on July 3 (RF). Osprey - 4 at Montague on Aug. 29; l at Knox's Dam in Victoria Cross on Sept. 13 (JW). Merlin — 3 probables at Heatherdale on Sept. 12 (JW). American Kestrel - 1 chasing a Red-tailed Hawk at Head of Montague on July 1; at least 5 at Head of Montague on July 28 and 29; 1 still there on Sept. 14 (JW). Upland Sandpiper — l probable heard near Primrose about June 21 (JW). Bonaparte‘s Gull - about 20 at Vernon Bridge on Aug. 26 (JW). ' I Black Guillemot - l at North Cape on Aug. 25 (WEC, DW). Mourning Dove — l at Head of Montague on Sept. 2 (MW, CW, PW). Black—billed Cuckoo — l at North Enmore on June 20 (GH); 1 probable at Victoria Cross on July 18 (JW). - v Snowy Owl - 1 found at Nine Mile Creek on July 19 (NGH)was in weakened condition but not injured; it was sent to the Owl Rehabilitation Centre in Ontario. Chimney Swift - l at Head of Montague on Aug. 26 (JW). Ruby—throated Hummingbird - a flock of about 6 at Carleton Siding June 2 stayed 5 days (PP). A male and female came regularly to the Wright feeder at Head of Montague from May on; at least one more, a female or juvenile was seen in late summer; last bird seen was a female or juvenile on Aug. 24 (JW). Bank Swallow - 1 at Vernon on Aug. 30 was last of the season for JW. Barn Swallow - 1 albino attended by its parents at Summerville was seen over a two-week period around July 18 (FC); one in Valleyfield on Sept. 5 was the last of the season for JW. American Robin - 1 'Newfoundland' Robin (darker than our regular robins) at Victoria West in late June (GR). Cedar Waxwing - about 20 sightings by JW through the summer in various places as compared to 1 or 2 for him in other recent years; he also received reports from several acquaintances. House Sparrow - l albino in Charlottetown on Aug. 18 (EV). Northern Oriole - 1 in Sherwood in mid July (JL fide JW). Field Sparrow - 1 possible heard near St. George's about June 21 (JW). Harbour Seal - 1 seen in Charlottetown Harbour on Aug. 26 (JW). 8
