The fact is that the statement is absolutely untrue. Not one doilar has been expended on the harbor. The Patriot is attempting to deceive the electors of East Prince, and to influence their votes. The Parliament of Canada in the year 1897 voted $30,006 for Sum- merside harbor. This money was never used and tke vote lapsed. This year (1898) the amount was again voted, but up tothe ! present, work has not been commenced,— é and is not going to be. The whole voteis ; an election dodge. It did duty in 1897, to ¢ Mr. 8. F. THE GENTLEWOMAN, We are in receipt of an early cory of the Imperial Christmas Number of The Gentlewoman, published in London, It is pleasing to note that the increasing inter- est of the people of Great Britain in the people of the Colonies is evidenced by the fact thatthis splendid number is entirely written by Colonial writersand artiste. The literary and artistic sympathies which exist between the Mother Country and her Colonies are certainly, as bas been weli remarked —“a powerful book of Imperial revision.” These sympathies must be exci- ted and developed by an enterchaage euch ae that which The Geotlewoman is pro- moting. The Gentlewoman’s plan is, we are glad to eee, approved by many distip-~ guisned gentlemen in Great Britain; and we have no doubt that it will be apprecia- ted in the Colonies. The numoer before us isin the highest degree creditable alike to the English editor and to his Colonial contributors. — eee - — FRA DIAVOLO. The Robinson Opera Company open their engagement here Monday night in “Fra Diavolo” The St John Daily Record of Nov 19th, commenting on the performance of Fra Diavolo, says: ‘A more delighted audience never left the Opera House than that which heard the Robinson Company sing Fra Diavolo last evening. It was really a revelation. The company made its biggest hit last night and sang and acted the pretty opera as well as it has ever been performed here. Pia several! times, but not with any more completeness or in a more finished way than last night.” No one should miss Fra Diavolo, Mouday night, at the Opera House. NO LIQUID ARGUMENTS. Sir —Now that the election in East Prince is on, itis to be hoped that no trips with whisky wil! be made to the country by acertain Liberal leader. At the last Dominion election A leading Charlottetown Liberal politician Mr. Bell belonging to the Prohibition Party will not use it himself, and I am quite sure he does not desire his friends to do so un his behalf.
