Soccer Panthers : struggle; Lady Panthers hold their own in field hockey fter six games, the UPE! men’s soccer A team is stillin search of win number one in this 1993 AUAA soccer season. The Panthers find themselves at the bottom of the league with a record of 0-4-2. With only 5 games remaining, the Panthers find their playoff hopes diminishing. This past weekend the Panthers saw action in Nova Scotia against Dalhousie and Acadia. While their defence was solid, their offence sputtered in both games. Saturday, in Wolfville, the Panthers battled Acadia toa scoreless draw. Moving northward to Halifax on Sunday, the Panthers found themselves on the wrong side of a 2-0 score. The Panthers’ next action is this Saturday, when they travel to Fredericton to meet UNB. In field hockey, the Lady Panthers were at home for two games against Halifax’s St.Mary’s Huskies. The Panthers split their games, winning 1-0 on Saturday, but losing 2-1 on Sunday. The Panthers’ record is now |-2-1, tying them with the Huskies, but both teams trail the division- leading UNB Reds in the 3-team Atlantic Con- ference. UPEI will have a chance to gain some ground on the division leaders when they host the Reds this weekend for two games at MacAdam Field on the UPEI campus. Game times are 4:00 pm on Saturday and 1:00 pm on Sunday. TODD PETRIE U.P.E.I. rugby Panthers defeat St. Thomas he men’s rugby Panthers slipped past the St. Thomas Tommies this Friday 12 to 7. The contest was a rough one with several St. Thomas players and. one panther having to leave the game due to injuries. What made the difference in the game was the Panther scrum, which set up their backfield for both scoring opportunities. Dan Johnston broke through the tommies defense and fed the ball to David Smith scoring the initial panther try early in the first half. The Tommies counter with a try anda conversion of their own by Donald Beezer mid way through the second half. With time running out, sophomore outside center Aaron Carr, offa nice feed from the scrum, wona foot race with tommies Donald Beezer to score the second Panther try and secure the win. Mike Connoly then converted the try to bring the score to 12 - 7. The win brings the panthers . recordto twoand one.
