UPEI Plans Open House The University of Prince Ed- ward Island is planning an Open House as part of National Univer- sities’ Week which runs October 14-22. The Open House is sched- uled for Saturday, October 21st and Sunday, October 22nd. UPEI President Dr. C.W.J. Eliot looks forward to welcoming the people of PEI to the cam- pus. “I offer a very warm wel- come to Islanders who gave so generously to the Challenge of the Eighties campaign for the renova- tion of Main Building,” he said. “I think you will like what we’ve done with it,” said Dr. Eliot. “Also after several years of devel- opment on campus we are look- ing forward to showing the pub- lic the new Food Technology Cen- tre, and as much of the new Field House now under construction, as safety will allow.” The various faculties of the University are planning displays and demonstrations for the Open House. The Faculty of Veterinary Medicine (A.V.C.) will be open- ing their new building to the pub- lic. When construction is com- pleted, UPEI will be taking re- sponsibility for the sports com- plex and supervision will fall un- der the University’s Athletic As- sociation. Students will Still Have a say in the operation of the House in areas of Intramural programs and Intercollegiate programs. Stu- dents will also be employed in ar- eas of the House such as front desk. This membership would include full use of facilities such as racquet ball and tennis courts a weight room and gymnasium. Also dis- cussed in the report is the ath- letic fee that Full-time students pay every year, and whether a new or increased fee will be im- posed fo ruse of the complex. Ed Hilton, Athletic director at UPEI does not blieve a new fee will be imposed, but it still has not been determined. The Athletic fee provides stu- dents with the chance to get in- volved in intramural programs, aerobic classes, use of all equip- ment, and much more.
