Oct. 3 - The Natural History Society's first meeting of the autumn will be the first night in a three night bird course being offered by the Society. Dan McAskill and Ray Cooke will speak on the "Waterfowl Birding on Prince Edward Island". The talk will focus on identification and habitats where they might be seen. The meeting starts at 7:30 pm at the Farm Centre on University Avenue in Charlottetown. YN Oct. 7 - The P.E.I. Roadrunners and the Provincial Forest Section of the Department of Agriculture & Forestry are co-hosting the First Provincial Forest Fall Frolic at the New Harmony Demonstration Woodlot near Souris. The day will feature 4.5 km and 13.2 km cross-country runs through the autumn foliage as well as self- guided walks along the trails. Run registration starts at 9 am (there's a small fee) and the runs start at 10 am. Oct. 12 - The Island Nature Trust will host two bird feeding workshops starting at 7:30 pm. Dan McAskill will be the guest speaker at the Farm Centre in Charlottetown and Jackie Waddell will be the speaker at Eptek Centre in Summerside. Everyone is welcome. YN Oct. 28 - Island Nature Trust will host the Seeds of Conservation bird seed sale at Charlottetown and Summerside Farmer’s Market and at Lorne MacDougall’s in Mill River East. Profits will be used for their natural areas conservation programs. Sale hours will be 9 am to 2 pm. They will have black oil and grey striped sunflower seed (25 and 50 lbs bags), niger seed (5 lb), cracked com (22 lb), beef suet, and grit. Call the Trust at 566-9150. Nov. 7 - The Natural History Society's meeting will feature Jim Jenkins speaking on "Life Along the Shore". The meeting starts at 7:30 pm at the Farm Centre on University Avenue in Charlottetown.
