The ither morn, the ice was clear, The brightest sunshine o’ the year Gart Scotchmen craw like chanticleer, Oh, sich a day for Curling. The soft breath o’ the southern breeze, Cam dallying through the birch n trees, Wi’ music hke the hum o’ bees, It cheered us at oor Curling. Fou’ many a whinstane micht be seen, And granite stanes frae Aberdeen; Of nondes-cripts, there was a wheen, But aw o' use in Curling. Wha were sae busy as the skips When ilka man his bosom grips. Tho’ some carles wished they had their nips To inspire them at their Curling. Mac’s whiarring stanes eam wi’ a bang, (Tbae Scotchmen maunr be awfa’ strang :) His watchfu, ee’ is seldom wrang, When he’s intent on Curling. Anither lad, the canniest chiel, That ever cam frae Galashiels, A champion shot at a Bonspiels, A veteran han at Curling. And Will and Tam that’s aye sae croose, And burly Jock frae Rankin’ hoose, Just let the world and a’ gang loose Tae hae a game at Curling. Iu memory o’ late chief McGill, A curler stout in heart and will, Nae ither scot can ever fill The cornels place in Carling. Noo a’ aroond rich Doric rang, In safter strains than Sappho sang, Nae Greek could imitate the twang, That graced oor game o’ Curling. The iee was graced that afternoon, By a’ the beauty o’ the toon, And many a graceless idle leon Wished he'd a han’ at Curling. Iu war we ken auld Scotias sons, Can handle weel theie swords and guns, In peace they ask nae grander fun, Than just a game o’ Curling. Scotch brains hae done the world some good, Gi’ ’en parritch fit for Angels food, Guid Whiskey too to warm the bluid, — And our glorious game o’ Curling. —_—— ~~ oo — Jim Exxrorr, the pugilist, was shot and killed in Chicago, on the Ist instant by Jere Dunn, —_——p-——— Oxg of the greatest gold discoveries ever made in British Columbia is that reported from Kootenay District.
