White , set himself to work, and nobly has he ` performed it. ` The Times correspondent tells that the Mauser rifles with which the Boers are armed are superior to the Bri- tish small arms, and of greater range. With a Mauser rifle and a good pair of lield glasses it is possible to make tolerable practice at 3,000 yards.
