Dr. Edwin 811d 547N115 P1190 and grandson oi the late Hon. H. J. Pineo. His childhood was spent in Haliiax, the family later moving to Pug. wash, N. S. In 1887 Mr. Clay mar- ried Deborah Louise, daughter oi the late Angus Brien and Mary Ipwther oi Victoria, P. B. I. Flor several years Mr; Clny followed the sea. holding n Master Mariner's certificate. In 1900 Mr. Clay was ordained to the christian ministry, after having attended the Moody Bible Insti- He held pastorates in Maine, Pennsylvania, New York, Massa- chusetts and his last pastorate be- ing in Virginia. Mr. Clay was much in demand as a lecturer. I-le pos- sessed an unusually keen mind ‘which was a. storehouse oi much -oi the best in literature and he had a. sympathetic interest in all humanity. I-Ils mind and heart were also richly stored with Bible wisdom, and his gift ior leader- ship Ln public prayer will long be remembered. Mr. Clay possessed a God-given voice and always took great pleasure in singing, especial- ly for the aged. In 1910 Mr. Clay established the Minnie Clay Fresh Air Camp in memory oi his daughter, who died in 1909 at the age oi 16 years During the summer months this camp cared for small children from the slums oi’ New York City. During the World War Mr. Clay was in Y. M. C. A. work acting as gMilitary Secretary and caring (or the returned soldiers in Halifax.
