A newspaper' article describes how Dominion notes are obtained at Ottawa. The statutes relating to this matter .state that when a `bank requires Dominion' notes it must supply in gold tender one~ quarter of the value oi the notes which it wishes to procure. Thus, if one thousand dollars in Dominion papers were required by the Bank of Ottawa, that institution would have to put up two hundred and titty dollars in gold and the balance may be ot _ any other legal money, or instead at bank can give Dominion notes in place of gold. This gold is kept in the strong vaults at the different Assistant Receiver General’s ~oi`dces. When the_ bills have been countersigned at Ottawa. they are sent to the Assistant Receivers at the above mentioned places as required, by ex- press, in bundles similar in value lo those first received from tae engraver. The oilicers receiving the bmdles at their destination acknowledge the rc- ceipt at the finance department' here, and they are tbgntrcady to hand them out to those req*ng them. ~~sTRoNG Room” nasoninnn. $250 _for the education of young men T56 _.su-Ong room” in which the 1 5t“dYmg for ‘he mlnlslfyf PT"f°¥'9-my 'I .rsare kept in Ottawa is a model of llllllllllllllllllh .lil `You' are invited to look over our stock of boots and shoes and see the great values we are offering.
