As already briefly sported in the
Guardian, the Charlottetown Rotari-
ans on Thursday entertained a num-
ber of delegates from Halifax and St.
John Clubs. when a hlglilyenjoyable
time was spent. After an automobile
ride around the city and suburbs, vis--
iting fox ranches. the Experimental
Farm and other places of interest, the
visitors had luncheon at the' Victoria
Hotel. They than .proceeded to the
Cliff Hotel where bathing and base-
ball occupied the afternoon. In the
baseball game Rotariun lticlizird \Vil-
liams, of Halifax, otherwise known as
"Lloyd George," 'and one of the most
popular of the visitors. displayed un-
common skill t'h-roughout, bringing
the game to a fitting climax by a bril-
liant catch. lie caught the ball,
which slipped out of his hands and
was caught a second time. only to
slip again. But with the true British
bull dog tenacity of his great name-
sake, hc' stuck to his guns, so .to
speak, and brought victory to his side.
Excellent music was furnished by
Professor Barlow_ who was loudly
encored. Professor Watkis presided
at the piano.
At 7 o'clock the party sat down to
supper. Those present were-

cities. 'He had hoped that Governor
Wigmore would be present, but owing
to a business engagement he had been

say how glad local. Rotarians were
to welcome them. Little less than a
year ago the Club was started' in
Charlottetown, and within nine months
it had grown by ons hundred per
cent. Much good had accrued from
the establlshnient oi' the Club in
Charlottetown. and as time went on,
said the President, they hoped to in-
crease in membership, building on a
firm foundation a permanent struct-
ure of Rotary. He believed that vis-
its such as the present were benefi-
cial not only to the local Rotarians
but to the visitors as well. It was
the common desire to have all mem-
bers become more closely acquainted,
and he thought that this wus one of
ilhe great. anibltions of Rotary to
bring men together t’r6m the various
cities in which Rotary Clubs were
established, tu meet one another and
become better acquainted. There was
often noticeable in some cities a cer-
tain tendency towards jealousy. It
was the aim of Rotary to engender a
spirit that would counteract this ten-
dency, which was purely the result of
a want of proper understanding am-
ong men. "We want to come to the
realization," concluded the President.
"that every city, town and community
has its own part to play in building
up a successful country, and we
know of no better medium to bring
this about than Rotary, where men
will come to a better understanding
of this great. need and be instrumen-
tal iu building up a successful busi-
ness. We are pleased to have such a
goodly number of guests tonight, and
hope they will carry away with them
pleasant memories of their visit to
Prince Edward Island. On behalf of
Charlottetown Rotasry Club I bid you
at hearty welcome; and now that I
have given you a 'Rotary welcome, I
will call upon our esteemed Premier,
Rota-rinn Arsenault, to give you a Pro-
vincial welcome." -
The Premier, lion. A. E. Arscnauli,
prefaccd his address with a facetious
remark on the brevity ot’ the notice
that had been g.v.cn him to speak on
the occasion. "This is a shortlcir-
cult," he said. "Van is an expert on
short circuits, (lauglitmk) l do not
appear on the program, and therefore
am taken hy surprise, and in the face
of sn many distinguished guests, nnd
my well known modesty, I have some
hesitation in addressing you." The
Premier then went on to express bbc
great pleasure it gave him to welcome
to the province the visitors from thc
neighboring province. Many of them
had already probably visited this pro-
vince and he hoped they would not
think that Islanders were doing any
boasting when they said they had a
nice little province, (Applause) Last
year he met a. stranger who, 'after
having visited a good many parts of
Prince Edward Island, said to him
that he ought to be proud of being
Premier of a province of this kind,
and he replied that he was. Having
“a nice province," said the Premier,
“wc like to have visitors enjoy it. The
only fault we find with the other pro-
vinces ls that they do not know us
_well enough. We have the reputa-
tion ln a great many places of being
somewhat of a mossiback population
here. That. impression has gone ab-
road chiefly from the fact thai. we
were very shy on motor cars, but
that l am sure is fast disappearing.
(Applause) The motor car has in-
vaded the pruvinr-e, and is here to
stay (applausq, and -ilhe motoring
population is ‘increasing very rapid-
ly. Some time ago I had tho pleas-
urarof addressing the Rotarians in
Charlottetown, and one of the things
I urged was a better understanding
of fraternallsm between the different
towns. I think it is very desirable
that the business men especially o
the different towns and cities should`
moot together. As the President has
well said, it takes away tho local
jealousy' which exists between the
towns, and the Rotarians should he
pioneers in eradicating this feeling.
it exists in this province, and I know
it exists in other provinces; and one
of the missions of Rotarians should be
to remove this feeling (Applause)
I again welcome you to the province.
and my only regret is that ,instead
of a day, you are not spending _with
us a week or two. However, l trust

Mr. Sexton urged on the part of em-l
ployers of returned soldiers, patience,
with the men. They must bear ln,
mind 'the difference between ten hours,
a day in a confined buildiug,,and the,
open air 'life of the soldier. Ninety
per cent of the men who came back
return to their old jobs. The other ten-
per cent. may- have been disabled so
that they cannot go back to their old

The labor unions were not-to ‘blame
any more than those against ,whom
they contended. They were only
standing for their rights. The "l.W.
W.," or Independent Workers of the
World, in the United States, he said
ou-ght to be driven out of existence,
but 'legitimate labor unions had donn
u great deal ot' patriotic work in this
war, insliinces of which the speaker
cited; and a great number from their
ranks had gone to the front.
Rev. Dr. Fullerton, on behalf of the

that had been given. The Doctor told

when one seems not able to -turn to
anyone for comfort or help -to bear.

Now I will try to tell you just what I
can. How I wish I could just do some-
thing to help your lonely heart. your
poor boy came -in here on the Biith
April with scarlet fever, I don't know
if he was very strong at home, but we
knowcamp life is not like home, so
this may have weakened his chest
for he developed pneumonia and this
eventually -took him away from us on
the 22 May at two -in the afternoon.
I can assure you he was very good
and .pa.tlent_ it was a. pleasure to do
anyth-img for him, at first he was a bit
reserved but .later used -to speak of
the farm he was coming back to.
When .the days were warm and fine,
he was carried outside in h-is bed, and
would say how some parts reminded
him of home, and always spoke very
-tenderly of his dear mother. The last
three days were the worst he had for
pain. The morning he went he often
asked if we cou-ld help. I tr-led to -tell
him how .there was One above who
could. He said he knew his dear moth-
er prayed for him. At one o’clock he
said he felt much better. God was
helping hflm through and was quite
conscious till about -ten minutes be-
fore the end, which was one of -the
mos-t peaceful ends, I have seen, so
rest assured dear mother, your dear
son is with Jesus and -is looking -for-
ward to meeting you there one day.
About his little personal th-ings I
expect you will have by the time' this
reaches you. 'us 'they were all sent to
tho Canadian Record office, London,
to be sent on to you. lie was -buried in

etery with full military honors, where

It could not have beep possible to
have brought him home, for being in-
fectious they would not be ‘allowed to
lake hilm on the ship, and I am sure
the memory of him ln health would
be f ar happier to you than when grim
death had come on. 1
Now I do hope this may be a little
comfort to you, I just wish -I could do
somthing more. May our 108/ther in
Heaven put Hia loving arms around
you and comfort arnd keep you.
