Seven and a half inches of rain fell in Pekin and an immense volume of water collected in a revine about Llen Li Ho, and sudden- ly broke in upon twenty villages. More than 10,000 people were drowned and a large number of draft animals. The villages in the valleys near Pekin re in danger every season, as the hills are destitute of trees and the waters flow together in fear- ful torrents unimpeded by vegetation. His Lordship said that since passing sen- tence upon the prisoner of five years, he had further evidence laid before him of the prisoner’s criminal record. A petition was filed yesterday, against the return of John Waldie. M. P. for Halton. The petitioner is Thomas Lusk, and the usual charges of bribery and cor- ruption are made.
