Concerning Excessive Library Noise! The library is for research and study. It is a designated quiet zone. Itisnota social center. We don’t want to hear about your personal lives, trials, tribulations, etc... Shut up! This means you! Show a little consideration next time you’re in the library. Hey, library police, why not take a stroll up around the carrels instead of guarding the pit. Signed, The Backlash Dear Editor: Regarding an article ‘‘Campus Women”’ in your September 24th issue which ‘‘reviewed the winning women forum: Please add such narffes as Dolores Crane, Janet Norgrove, and Heather deMille to the list given of those contributing to the ‘vibrant and lively discussions’’ at the forum. The author of this review seemed intent on recognizing only two political party representations. It was the intention of the forum’s Planning Committee to recognize that women can and do participate in all political arenas (municipal, provincial, and federal) and from a diverse field of political persuasions which certainly includes more than two political parties. A participant of the Forum Edith Perry Sarah MacLeod and the Sociology/Anthropology Club: lusually don’t lower myself by responding to the tactics that you have used, however I feel I must comment on your letter Which appeared in the October 22 issue of the ‘‘X-Press’’. First of all, anyone who knows me (which obviously doesn’t include you and most of your ‘‘club’’) would agree that I may lack a lot of things (like a Porsche) buta sense of humour is not one ofthem. Please feel free to come talk to me and you’ Il see What I mean. Secondly, I cannot understand why I was not invited to the ‘Private gathering’’ at which the Socrates Award was pre- Ri Yousee, I had a wonderful time at the year end Soc/Anth bash i in April 1992 (free liquor) but I guess I stepped ona few toes "! Were you there? Also, is this ‘‘rather creative professor’’ On -- wonder who) not teaching in an institution of higher learning? Why yes! That is what I would like to think UPEI is. And since this certain professor is teaching at UPEI, is he/she not a representative of this institution of higher learning? Thirdly, I would like to analyze the term ‘‘in-joke’’. ‘‘IN”’: since most of the university and outside community know of the circumstances surrounding the award, it really fails to be ” classified as an ‘‘in’’. *‘JOKE’’: clearly reflects that it may be you and your *‘club”’ which lacks a sense of humour -- or more likely so, you have very poor taste. Inregards to your comments concerning the creation ofan award for me, I will have to pass as Ido NOT need ANOTHER award to hang on my wall. Ijust don’t have the room. Thanks anyway. Asa fourth point, in regards to ‘‘The Movie’’, again you have made very false assumptions. I have seen pornography -- not much, but enough to convince me that itis nothing but detrimen- tal to our society in general and women in particular. Also, if I ‘‘gotrid’’ of my television, I wouldn’t see near enough of my friends (ie Heather J. Morrison). Yes, I must agree that Shannon Tweed remained completely clothed (I’m not going to vouch ‘*chaste’’). however, what about ‘‘Bunny’”’ and the other dozen or so (I lost count) women who run around in rags with various parts of the human anatomy hanging out? Perhaps we could discuss the scene in which the main dominant male convinces the passive males (Donahues) to act like ‘‘real men’’ by getting ‘*sloshed’’ and gang raping ‘‘Bunny.’’ Oops! There goes MY sense of humour. So you see, although Shannon Tweed remains completely clothed, that does not make this movie okay, does ...continued on page 7 ‘The flair of Lebanon in downtown Charlottetown Baba's Lounge "A safe & friendly environment” (Above Cedar's Eatery) Mon. - Special Prices Tues. - University Night "Special Prices” Wed. - Poetry Readings Thurs. - Island Musicians Fri. & Sat. - Complimentary Buffet 9:00 -11:00 PM Limiting Seating Happy Hour Daily Food Specials Aes: 5:00 - 8:00 PM 3.95 (Tax incl.)
