Belle continually spurted along, and was followed ata good distance by Island Maid. On nearing the half-mile, all with the excep~- tion of Jennie, were for some moments on a full gallop, causing them to closely quar- ter Belle at the time of passing the pole. Island Maid passed second, followed in position by Nellie, Saucy Dan, Rapid Roan and Jennie. This position was held until the finish, ; Second Heat.—The horses came up in good shape, and got the word ‘ go’’ av*che third effort, with Island Maid getting a little the bestof it. All were well up ex- cept Saucy Dan. Nellie, Rapid Roan and Belle raced hotly for the second!position at the quarter-mile pole; Island Maid having the first, the second was taken by Jennie, with Nellie, Bel’e, Saucy Dan and Rapid Roan in sequence. The race, after passing the quarter pole, became exciting. Jennie collared the Maid and gave her the go-by in good style, followed by Belle—both Meii ead Belle going off their feet—were passed by Jennie and Nellie.
