BRITISH PARLIAMENT, England's Defences Discussed, ADDITIONAL INFORMATION’ PROMISED. i aS June 11. ouse of Commons to-day, Lord milton, First Lord of the Admi- In the George the r of transports necessary for 100,000 men to land in England and seize London by surprise, took into consideration the condition that sucha feat was possible; that a whole army could disembark simultaneously, and when _ landed, that it would be capable of rapid movement. The estimate that ships of a gross tonnage of 480,000 tons would be required for transporting the military force, he said, was on the assump- tion that it would be equal to three army corps comprising cavalry an 3 Childers asked, seeing the subject was exciting attention, that a detailed authorit- able statement be presented to Parliament. Hamilton replied that data had been ob- tained 13 years ago as a result of a joint conference. He promised to produce those of the transport department which satisfied that the tonnage referred to did not over-estimate the preparations neces- sary for the landing of such a force. Such an invading force from the continent, he continued, implied the distribution of the invaders in parts a hundred miles apart, with a successful voyage not less than a week instead of a few hours, and made without opposition from a hostile fleet. That the ladies who collected for the fund deserve the thanks of the community. That their list of coatributors is, how- ever, minus the names of several citizens who could well afford to come down hand- somely. That Southport is becoming quite a popu- lar resort. That the giddy pair who were ogling each other on the steamer a few afternoons ago were observed. wards was also noticed, That Wizard Oil is evidently popular with the ladies, That some of the excursionists to South- rt miss the steamer and have to hire a atman to row them beck to town. That the hop beer business is cutting into the Scott Act pretty badly. That some of the girls still persist in reading their love letters before they get home from the Post Office. That they should not be so foolish. That some of these same girls say they do not care a snap for he writer of the missive, but their actions give them away. That there would not be so much trouble getting cut ef church these warm evenings if there was less bustle about the doors. — —— Summerside Exports.
