She told the annual convention of the Canadian Home Economics Association: "it calls for young people with qualities, the spiitudes and the capacity for human understanding who will fill the jobs with com- petence and imagination. "There is a crying graduates in the doctorate level, Positions at the administrative level - at least here and in the United States - remain vacant for great lengths of time. In 1930. this tlmbir was so far from market that it offered cheap material for building an unusual road to cross the bog. With timber prices what they are today, such s road would cost too much to build even on Graham Island. But it years ago several sew mills were operating there to meet the limited demand of the sur- rounding dlstrict. As a road was needed between the two lawns. the government put the mills to work sawing logs for it. The lay of the land permitted the road to he built in a straight line. At every half mile sidings were laid so that vehicles could pull out of line and let the other fellow pass. Moving sidewalks in the form of conveyor belts are about to give sore footed folk a lift in Jersey, N. J. The belts will go into action as pedestrians carriers this summer. New Jersey citizens who use the Erie Railroad and then the tubes under the Hudson River to get to their Jobs in New York City will be the first to ride the moving sidewalks. The belt is capable of carrying approximately ll,000 tired com- muters sn hour. The greater part of the belt covers a ten per cent grade and is supposed to ease pedutrian traffic Jams as well as weary muscles. It is planned to operate the belt at a speed of 120 feet a minute. Workers in a tire and rubber firm in Akron. Ohio. make the 400 foot continuous belt. It is ht of an inch thick and weighs 11,000 pounds. Workers in Aurora, Ill- inois, turned out the 30 tons of equipment on which the belt rides.
