PLANTS: Surprisingly, the raspberries, blackberries, and chokecherries in Donagh have lots of fruit despite the extremely dry conditions in May and June (RPh, JDM). Red jellyfish common (about 1 every 15 to 25 feet) at Brackley Beach on Jul. 15 and large numbers of red jelly fish (1 every 5 to 7 feet) at Savage harbour on July 25 and Aug. 14 (JDM, RPh). Rock crabs attacking jellyfish trapped in tidal pools at Savage Harbour on July 26th. They chased the jellyfish and sucked the tentacles into their mouths pulling the jellyfish down towards them (JP). Codfish up to 28 inches long in good numbers and a few small tinker mackerel present off Savage Harbour on Aug. 2 as season re-opened to in-shore fishers (JDM, RPh). Good schools of large mackerel present off Covehead Harbour in Aug. (LY, WFB) MAMMALS: Red Fox with only a four to five inch long tail at Fort Amherst the last three years photographed on May 24 (LD).
