Tie a r over the end of the meat grinder when grinding bread crumbs. No crumbs spilled at all! 2. Drop pieces of uncooked chicken or meat into a bag containing flour. salt and pepper. A few shakes and the meat is flavoured and seasoned nicely. 3. when paint- ing, set the opened paint can in a paper bag, with the top rolled donm-that way there are no stray drops landing on the floor! 4. Even at age six this ratio applies, and an average of 10 tooth surfaces per child are involved. Al- ready at this early age one out or every five has lost teeth pre- maturely and a ;imiliar number will also suffer premature loss of teeth due to dental disease. Finally she said des- perately, "Dear, when other peo- ple play the violin, I notice that there are four strings, and the players move their fingers about continuously." "Of course," her husband replied patiently, "the cthers have four strings and move their fingers about constantly. They are looking for the place. It is evident from ouoih statistics that the prevention of dental dis. ease must be a major national ob. jectlve. The most effective means to meet such an objective must include three aprproachm - dental re- search, dental health education of Duibllc. and early dental supervision of children. A Publicly supported dental re- leamh program is Urgently needed W Provide newer knowledge and skills necessary in promoting public health preventive procedures, The wide use of fluorides in communal Water supplies in the U.3.A. as a preventive measure against dental caries is one example or the value of dental research. A new division of Dental Research has recently been established at the University of Toronto with its activities direct- ed toward the prevention of dental disease and wbnormalltles. There mint be an appreciation by the public and an understanding and cooperation respecting the ap- plication of newer knowledge io- ward the prevention of dental dis- ease and abnormalities in growth and development. A cooperation is needed in home care, s. g. reduction i Religion First Moderator of 0 "TIIE THINGS Jawsliarlal Nehru, Prime Minis- ter of India. commands the at- tention of the world. The spirit of this statesman compels admir- ation, since he, who suffered so much for India freedom. has re- fused to be embittered by it but takes a world view of every issue that comes before him. His treat- ment of the problem of peace in Korea is a case in point. He was it guest of the central Commit- tee of the World Council of Chur- ches which met in Lucknow at the turn of the year, and gave an addrws there remarkable alike for its comprehensiveness and keen- ness. Among other pointed ob- servations. he said on the ques- tion of religious freedom in India that India has "based her con- stitution on the secular basis, hhich does not mean an antl-re- ligloua basis, but rather that all the religions have complete free- dom." The contrast is startling between this policy and the course pursued by the Communist gov- ernment in China. Our interest here is in the reply to his address given by the vice- chairman of the committee in pro- posing a vote of thanks to the prime minister. He is reported to have said: "God has established the Church. He has also estab- lished the State. You are the head of the State here in India. The Church recognizes the State as a sister institution-the State under the Lordship of God." 0 O u Not only does the church recog- nize the state, but gives it cordial support wherever its policies are in accord with the laws of God. Christian men have risen to posi- tions of influence in India's gov- ernment circles out of all propor- tion to their numbers. which means that the government of India has found an asset where its neighbor finds only objects of suspicion and persecution. One is reminded of Jesus' answer to His critics when they brought before Him the question of the at- titude which God's people ought to take toward the Roman govern- ment. At that time there was in- tense opposition in Palestine to the occupying powcr. Many de- vout patriots felt that God was their only King and that submis- sion to the alien invader was a be- trayal of God's interests in His people. This feeling came to a head in the policy of the zealots. a fanatical party who were agi- tating for war to the knife against Rome. Jesus' critics framed a question which would get Him into trouble whichever answer He gave: "Is it lawful to pay taxes to Caesar or not?” If He said that it was law- tul. He would antagonize the pat- riots, among His own people. If He answered that it was not law- ful. He would be accused before in the use of sweet foods in caries prevention; oral hygiene with brushing and rinsing timed to re- move food debris before damage is done to the tooth. (This alone has oeen shown to reduce dental decay by 50 per cent); reducing the nuan- ber of eating periods to three main meals with no between-meal or bed-time sweet snacks. Early dentist supervision and dental care beginning sti2',6 years of age is important if dentists are to maintain the normal dental health of the child or into adult- hood. . The Division of Dermal Public Health of one Department of Health and Welfare is putting on a series of talks mi dental health to be heard each Saturday momlng on OFCY for the next few weeks. These preventive measures will be explained and enlarged upon. ii-Saturday: Hearts are trump today. Make no mistake about that! Are you planning a. Valen- tine party? C I Jesus threw the question back on His critics. He asked for a sample of the tax money. and when they brought a coin to Him, He asked: "Whose likeness and inscription is this?" they answered: "Caesar's" He re- toned: "Render therefore til Caesar the things that are Caesar's and to God the things that are God's." In other words: You have settled this issue for yourselves by accepting Caesars currency. when you accept from a government the services which only govern- ment can give, you cannot object to paying the bill. All social life is made possible only by government and tolerable only when government is just. Its laws and policies regulate our deeds and dealings. Its power guarantem our rights. Our free- dom and opportunity for initiative and adventure are possible only under a just rule. Inverrtiveneas and genius and the energy which puts their discoveries into effect are suppressed by tryanny. The iact that we owe so much to the state carries with it obligations which the Christian citizen must discharge or be untrue to his God. 0 D 0 Here is a. truth often ignored in our time: An inwortant way of rendering to God the things that are God's is for the Christian citizen to meet his obligations to the state in full. The only way in which God's laws can be estab- lished in the state and His will done "on earth as in Heaven" is by Godis people using their fran- chise in uphold right principles in our nation's laws and policies. Once in an address to a con- vention of Church youth in Peel County, N. W. Rowell, then a young and ardent advocate of Christian principles in public life, gave this illustration. The laws of a nation must embody the average of the people's convictions. If they are above average, there will be a greater weight of opinion against them than for them, and they must come down. If they are be- low the average there will be a greater weight of opinion against them than for them and they must come up. His plea was for Christ- ian young people to raise the av- erage and put the full weight of their moral convictions and loyalty to their Divine Lord behind those measures which crystallize in our laws the will of God for His peo- ple. We have been hearing from Eastern and Western Canada re- ports of small votes in provincial and municipal elections. What does this mean in actual practice? One result is that people with special interests at stake always vote; citizens who care only for the 'gen- oral good stay at home. Often and often able men who are committed to ihe good of the community as a whole tare defeat- ed by weaker men who are pledged to support the Intsrestsyoi a particular class. The extent to which we are governed by minor- ity groups who can promise a solid vote to their supporters is alarming. We have space for only this one practical truth enforced by Jesus words and by the situa- tion in Canada today.-We, the citizens of a self-governing coun- try, can render to God the things that are God's by giving to Caesar PAGE THREE the things that are Caesar's. Oliver Cromwell met the spiri of the Cavalier In his time by en listing the moral passion of the Puritan: what lust and greed an: the spirit of faction will do fol their special claims in our lam can be-met and vanquished onl; by Christian citizens who put thei devotion to Christ, which mean the general good of men, Into el feet in every community by their votes and influence in their sup port.
