DAWSON. known the better appreciated) is a testimuny of it- self more convincing than anything that could be written in praise of its truly wonderful bealing propertics. In the cure of bad legs, bed breasts, sores, wounds, and ulcers, its effect is marvellous. For ring-worm, scald-bead, scrofula, and diseases of the skin generally, there is no remedy to be com- pared to it. When assiduously rubbed upon the skin (previously well bathed in warm water) this Ointment is quickly absorbed into the system, and cleanses, in its passage, every part to which it is applied. Glandular Swellings, Mumps, Bronchitis, Quinsey, Sore Throats and Diptheria. In any of the above diseases, immediate and per- | manent relicf is obtained by effectually rubbing this | detergent Ointment, twice a day, upon the neck, | ebestand back. Its acts upon the very mainsprings | of life; for through the glands pass all new matter | required for the budy’s reparation and all old par- ticles detrimental to its preservation. The Oint- ment, used eonjointly with Holloway’s Pills, will act so searchiogly and certainly as to effect cures in the must hopeless cases. Rheumatism, Lumbago, Con- tracted and Stiff Joints. Many thousands of martyrs from the above com. plaints bave found life almost unsupportable; yet, if Holloway’s Ointment be briskly and perseveringly rubbed upon the parts affected, ease may be safely guaranteed, especially it the pores of the skin be previously opeved by tomentations with warm water. The gross humors require expulsion frum the sys. tem; it is therefore necessary to have recourse to Holloway’s admirable Pills, which, by purifying anu | strengthening the system, greatiy assist the opera. | tion of the Ointment and facilitate and cunfirm | the cure. Bad Legs, Bad Breasts, and Ul- cerations of all kinds. There is no medicinal preparation in the world which may be so thoroughly relied upon, in the treatment of the above ailments, as Holloway’s Ointment. Nothing can be so simple or safe as the manner in which it is applied, or its action on the bedy, both locally and constitutionally. The Oint- ment, rubbed around the part affected, enters the pores just as salt enters meat. It quickly penetrates to the source of the evil and drives it from the system. Erysipelas and Scrofulous Sores. In all irritations of the skin, sores, ulcers, burns or scrotulous enlargements of any kind, Holloway’s Ointment presents a ready and easy means of cure. It manifests a peculiar power in restraining inflam- mation, removing stagnation, cooling the heated blood, and checking all acrimonious and unhealthy discharge. Diseases attendant on Childhood. Diseases incident to early life fall more under the management of the mother than the medical man. Holloway’s Ointment should therefore be regarded by her as a “Household Treasure,’* as it never fails in bringing out the rash in measles and scarlatina; and for the removal of all skin diseases its effect ismiraculous. Incases of whoopiug cough and croup, this invaluable Ointment should be rubbed twice a day upon the throat and ehest, and the youngest invalid will derive therefrom the most soothing relief. Two or three of Holloways’s famous Pills, reduced to a powder, will augment the cura- tive powers of the Unguent. Both the Ointment and Pills should be used in the following cases: Bad Legs |Corns (soft) Rheumatism Bad Breasts Cancers Scald Heads Burns Coutracted and |Sore Nipples Bunions Stit? July 23. tf A COMMON SENSE VIEW Mode in which MOSPWLL BRS STOMACH BITTER ACT UPON THE HUMAN SYSTEM. This is an age of inquiry. People wantto know the why and wherefore of all statements submitted to them as facts, and as far as this GREAT PROTECTIVE AND INVIGORANT is concerned, it is proposed te gratify them. All the physicians admit that the greatest diffi- culty they encounter iu their practice is in convey- ing to the seat of a disease the medicament that will counteract and neutralize it. Electricity has been tried for this purpose, but it is now generally admitted that the electric fluid is too subtle av agent to be made the vehicle of medication. It shocks the nerves, but cannot distribute through the system anything exceptitself. Medicated elec tricity is, in short, an exploded humbug. But a liqnid stimulant, as everybody knows, can be charged with the essential properties of any aud every substance in the Matera Medica, and there is no herbial extract which it will not boldin solution with all its preventive and curative virtues upim- paired. Now, the pure liquid stimulant of which HOSTETTER’S BITTERS. are in part composed, is charged with invaluable vegetable remedies, and these, by reason of its MANUFACTURER of Clothig, wn and patrons for pust favore, beye lew i. them aud the public geuerally, that he w Ot found at hie Old Stand on QUEEN : bY is prepared to make up ali kinds of gu : ed to him in the latest style and itaproveusatt aa * fashion. « Terms Cash, Entrance at the side Door, Queen Street, July 9, 1866. a —, 18, Trafford Chambers, South John Street. To use acommon expression, it goes to the spot, taking with it just what is wanted there. The essenceof ery would undoubtedly diffuse itself through the or- yauization as swiftly, if administered pure and simple, as if mixed with the juices of tonic and al- terative roots, barks and herbs. But of what use would it be without their healing, strengthening, life-sustaining balm? It would merely exc*te. It could neither protect nor cure. And herein lies the essential difference between the effect of the purest stimulant, when given alone, and the same stimolaut, when administered in the wediciual form of e HOSTETTER'S STOMACH BITTERS. Good Monongahela epirit is doubtless the mildest and most innocavus of all the varieties of liqucr, but it only becomes a healthful medicine when in- pregnated with the vegetable elements employed in the pre»wration of the Ditters. TO DYSPEPTIC SUFFERERS, Under tue general head of Dyspepsia may be clagsed ull the varieties of indigestion. Its symp- toms are so Various, and difler s0 much in different individuals, that it is ulmost impossible to classify them. In fact, some of them are utterly indiscrib- able. It may be safely asserted, however, that half of the diseases of mankiud spring from a dir- ordered state of the stomach; and that the other half, whatever their origiu, react upon that seusi tive and important organ. Among the ordinary in- dicatiens of Dyspepsia or tlatulence, a bloated and full feeling about the stomach and abdomen imme- diately after eating, 1 gnawing seusation, or 4 sense of hollowuess at the pit of the ste:uch, be- tween meals, a heavy dull feeling in the head, feeble or unsteady appetite, occasional uausea, a restless dul] feeling during the night, and a weary, unrefreshed feeling on rising in the morn- ing, palpitation of the heart, depression of miud, sometimes amounting to monomania, lossof memory, confusion of thought, sour stomach, with risivg of food, anda choking sensation in the throat, dimness of the eye, pain in the diaphragm, feebleness and disinelination for exertion, aud semetimes emacia- tion and a corpse-like palor. These are a few of the direct signs of Dyspepsia, but it is generaliy complicated with specitic affections of the bowels, the liver, and the nerves; its victims have many additional torwents which ure technically at- tributed to other causes. The best advice that cam be given to ery one who has the slightest predisposition to Dys- pepsia, is to fortify his or her digestive organs by the daily use of HOSTETTER'’S BITTERS. The disease proceeds fron. a lack of viger in the stomach, and this vitalizing preparation will toxe and renovate that organ. If the gastric apparatus ix in good working order, and can perfectly dissel ve and thoroughly assimilate the food submitted te ite operation, there will be no dyspepsia. If it eannot do this, it requires reinforcement, and the best of all reizforeiug ageutes should be forthwith resorted to. The stomach is the commissary of the syscem. It supplies the elements of life to the whole body. In it is prepared the material of blood, muscle, bene and fibre, and if it fuils to purvey that mate- rial in sufficient quantity, and of a proper kind, the whole body euffers, and with it the mental facul- ties. Therefore protect the ** Commirsary Depart- ment.”” Don't jet the enemy obtain possession of it. It is easier to prevent disease from getting into an organ than to expel it after it becomes a easivess in the stomach asa sigu that dyspepsia is preparing to attack, and baffle it at onee with this great repellant. But if it is too late to prevent, remember that it is not too lateto cure. It is believed that there is no case of chronic indigestion that can withstand the remedial operation of. HOSTETTER'S STOMACH BITTERS. This belief is grounded on twelve years’ experience of the efficacy of the preparation. The first in- atance of its failure to give relief is yet unchronicled. If it ever had failed, the voluminous correspon- dence addressed to the proprietors from all parts of the United States and South America, would, at least, include one letter expressing dissatisfaction. But no, there is not one. The testimony, extending ever a period of more than a dozen years, is all of the sarae approving tenor. Certainly this is a sufli- cient warrant for claiming that the Bitters are a Specific for Indigestion in all its varieties. Prepared and sold by HOSTETTER & SMITH, Prrepuna, Pa.
