Large, for nearly twenty years chiefof the Fire Depart- ment of Coarlottetown. Mr. Large was well known as one of our smartest citi- zens, Upwards of thirty years ago he joined the city Fire Department. He as- sisted at the fire by which the old Victoria Hotel was burned in 1860, and was in the midst of almoei every fire that has oc - curred in Charlottetown since that time. His activity was always remarkable. He was elected lieutenant of the Rollo Steam Fire Engice Company under Cap- tain (Dr.) Strickland ; and wien, in 1876, the Silsby engine was imported and Captain Strickland was transferred to her, Mr. Large became captain of the Rollo. In February, 1881,'Mr. Large was elected by his fellow firemen to the cfiica of Ubief Engineer ; and the election wa, subsequently confirmed by the City Council, Mr. Large was a Past Grand Master of St. John’s Lodge, Free and Accepted Masons. Besides being an active and prominent citizen, he was a kind and loving busband and father.
