      of
      a
      collection
      which
      many
     
     
      students
      may
      not
      know

      Known
      as_
      the
      _
      Special
     
     
      Collections
      Area,
      this
      part
      of
      the
     
     
      library
      came
      into
      being
      in
      the
      late
     
     
      1990s
      when
      the
      P.E.I.
      Collection
     
     
      began
      to
      outgrow
      the
      space
      intended
     
     
      for
      the
      two
      collections.
      Mr.
      Lloyd
     
     
      tells
      me
      that
      the
      actual
      renovations
     
     
      themselves
      were
      undertaken
      in
      the
     
     
      summer
      of
      1999,
      with
      the
      end
      result
     
     
      being
      that
      the
      new
      Special
      Collections
     
     
      Area
      opened
      to
      library
      users
      in
     
     
      September
      of
      1999.
     
    

    
     
      “The
      Special
      Collections
      Area
     
    
   
   
    
     
      by
      Kelley

      was
      created
      so
      that
      it
      could
      be
      given
     
     
      more
      space,
      climate
      control
      and
      as
     
     
      well,
      a
      more
      stable
      micro
      climate,”
     
     
      Lloyd

      asked
      about
      some
      of
     
     
      the
      titles
      that
      the
      Special
      Collections
     
     
      holds,
      Lloyd
      rattles
      off
      a
      few:
      “J.J.
     
     
      Seinfield,
      Michael
      Hennessey,
      and
     
     
      Lucy
      Maud

      Looking
      back
      to
      his
      first
     
     
      impressions
      of
      working
      here
      in
      July
      of
     
     
      1999,
      Lloyd
      was
      struck
      by
      the
      open-
     
     
      ness
      of
      the
      library,
      both
      to
      the
      stu-
     
     
      dents
      and
      the
      community
      at
