BYLQOUHARN ALFORD, ABERDEEN, SCOTLAND. 20th., Dec. 1875 Pear Str,—In reply to your several enqni- ries about the Polled Aberdeen Angus Cattlg j am convinced that the bulls of that breed will seouer or later be universally recognized as the best adapted sires for crossing, especially ip the countries that expert live cattle for the English markets. As an instance of the im- pressiveness of a well bred polled bull. I state without fear of contradiction that the progeny ef 100 horned cows, served with a high-bred Pelied Aberdeen Bull, not one will be other thad black and poiled. This should be a great consideration with shippers, more can be put inte a truck or a feeding court, and no damage by goring. ‘he polled Aberdeens are a hardy race, thriving where shorthorns cannot live, There is an impression abread that they are slow feeders, this is not the case as they will grow an! weigh with any shorthorn and carry their mieat evenly and in the prime parts. As an instance th® Polled Bullock which gained the ‘ . ° ° 2 . + < ing dishonor en its *** ihty” promoters, and ith of the Caledonia Club. Aucnst, 0, 1880, Yours, "THISTLE. - Iood for Tanner. Dr. Tanner on the 38th day of his fast was unable te retsin water, and it seems improb- uble that he will be able to swallow water- melons and milk without serious trouble.” Nr. ‘Tanner was reported to be in a precari- eus condition at noon on the 6th. He has been weak, sick and miserable lately, but re solute. Dr Gunn says that on Wednesday last he visited Tanner with the intention of advising him to discontinue his fast, but after talking with him, and witing with him for a short time he changed his mind. Dr. Gunn believes that forty days ef fastiag under the excitement and worriment that ‘Tanner has undergene, is equivalent to a fast of sixty days under wholly favorable circumstances, Dr. Hammond says he thinks Tanner’s fast honest; that although there has been alleged fasts’ of longer duration, Tanner’s is better authenticated and that he has shown the in- ability of the human race to go fer any con- siderable period without water, Hammond's proposition to Tanner for the latter to go thirty days without food, water included, is 51ans, still open. But Hammoud hopes, for the faster’s sake, that it will not be accepted. Hammond says the scientific results of ‘j'an- ner’s fast is’ not what they should have been. _ °°. > Uscite Tem ar CrRiraun.—Lewis-Potosky Dramatique Co., weil known bere, have been doing the Island theatrically fer the past week o . or so, and concluded their tour as above on Saturday evening with ithe above popular 7 S I drama.
