The death occurred in this city
Monday evening at 9.30 o'clock. after
a comparatively brief illness. of Mr.
Allred Wallace Owen, st the ngc- ot
seventy-tour years. He was horn in
Charlottetown and was the youiigcst
son ot the late Mr. Thomas Owen, for-
merly Postmaster here. in his early
'days, he was employed in the office
ot his ibrother the late Hon. Lemuel
C. Owen, who was -at that time en-
gaged in business with the late Cap-
tain Welsh. the firm ‘being known as
Welsh & Owen. Subsequently, Mr.
Owen entered into partnership with
the lata -Senaitor McDonald and they
conducted a. business here, under the
name oi' McDonald & Owen. Alter
the dissc-lution ot the partnership
Mr. Owen went to Ottawa in tho
year i879, and entered tho Civil Sor-
vlce. lie steadily rose in tho acr-
vlco until he became (‘hlel' Account-
ant ol’ tho Department ot' Murine and
li‘ishorlc~s. This position he held for
a number of years retiring 'about
eight years ago on superannuation al-
lowance. The deceased was twice
married. His first wife was Miss
‘ Ross ot' Picton. Five children were
