Dear Editor, I wish to reply to the letter regarding criticism of Kirsten Lund, our athletes and the so called “entourage of puckbunnies.” First I would like to compliment Kirsten on her courage in voicing and signing her opin- ion. The writer of the most recent attack obviously feared the publicity as his or her well written article was signed “unsigned”. I have a question for “unsigned”. What exactly, in your opinion is a “puck- bunny”? It would seem to be somebody who’s promis- cuous behaviour gains her popularity with the team. I know very few who fit that discription. Or is it someone who at- tends the games and social- izes with the players. If so I guess myself and many of my friends are such “bunnies”. I consider many of our athletes to be worth-while human beings. I have offered my. friendship and in return have received friends. Often you get back as much or as little as you give. Have you ever made an effort to talk to any of this “cliquish, seg- regated, shallow, elitist and prejudicial” group??? (Did I get all the adjectives right?) I’ve never been snubbed or have intentually snubbed and I don’t consider myself any better than anyone else. You may be sick of the emphasis on athletics but I am sick to death of hearing our university’s teams. be- ing slanderized. These peo- ple put in over two hours a day after classes- busting their behinds and giving this place a name that our facul- ties cannot boast. In spite of practices and missed class due to road trips, many “jocks” actually have excel- lent academic records. Can you top that? For God's sake if you do have a prob- lem with popularity or the university’s reputation, do something about changing it. Why not try giving sports enthu- siasts a break and get to know them before forming such bias opinions... Dawn MacDonald THE PANTHER Friday Nov.13 Movies “EDUCATION SOCIETY CHOICE” SSSSSS 1. The Gem’s editor then argued that the Gem has gotten a great deal bet- ter. The editor’s arguement was very well put. The per- son that does not think that the Gem is better, misses the point, I feel a School Newspaper should have rel- evance for the students in that university. In the past I noticed articles that really didn’t have a great deal to do with the University. This year a marked difference is evident. Especially interest- ing has been the letter page. In the past the letter page left a great deal to be de- LOUNGE | SOSSS SS sired. The five lines free seg- ment is also interesting. Secondly, the writer compared the Gem to the Guardian, and also made a rather scathing re- mark about the Guardian. First of all the Gem should not be ‘compared to the Guardian. Secondly, he stated that Ontarians argue that the Guardian is one of the worst newspapers in the country, and North America in general. I say who cares what people from Ontario think about Island, newspa- pers. I am sure they don’t care what we think of their newspapers. Besides the Guardian only needs to cover the ‘Island, so it should not Cont. on page 7 SCARY ‘ a vida Friday the 13% ' overnber 13% ICES aT jims... mghT ~ ~~
