Successful beyond the most san-
guiiie expectations, the Red Cross par-
ade on Saturday afternoon was wit-
nessed by large and enthusiastic
crowds. 'l`he sight was a unique one
and was quite a novelty so far' as
Charlottetown was concerned. and the
Society is much indebted to -all who
helped to make the parade the success
it was. Special credit is due the pro-
moters, Mr. and Mrs. A. Newell, of
Brighton Road. who conceived the
idea, and under whose direction the
affair was got up. That the public ap-
preciated the innovation and was in.
hearty sympathy with it was evidenced
by the magnificent collection which
was made, $135. The parade was ac-
companied by iiienlbers of the 4th Re-
giment Band. There were a number
of collectors and the two highest
amounts, $18 and $12 were secured by
Misses Isabel Toonibs and Lizzie Cole-
nlan, respectively. The various vehi-
cles engaged in the procession w'ere
splendidly decorated and the repre-
sentative tableaux were interesting,
and impressive. A partidularly amus-
ilig one was the effigy of the Kaiser.
This was a straw-stuffed impersona-
tion of the Emperor, which was after-
wards burned to the strains of Rule
Ilrltalliiia. Over the "Kaiser," radiant-
ly triumphant, stood Muster Phillip
McDonald, who looked for all the
world the part he played, John Bull.
