'i—(AP)—Am- erican industry has lost about $1,- fooonooooo worth of business Jhmugh the recent British, French and Australian decisions to cut imports, a survey showed today. All three countries critically need the goods they have decided not to buy. But all say they must con- serve their dwindling supply of dollars for bare essentials. Britain is slashing her imports to save at the rate of $912,000,000 e year. Virtually all of the sav- ings will be in dollars. France decreed a savings of $250,000,000, in dollars alone, dur- ing the next six months. Australia cut her imports by 040000.000. all in dollars. a year. Most of the dollar savings will be effected in the United States, but smaller dollar countries. es- pecially Canada, will feel the pinch, too. The American fllm industry banned exports to Britain after the British Government, to conserve dollars, imposed a 75-per-cent tax on the estimated earnings of each American film arriving here. Britain plans to reduce her overseas military expenditures by 580000.000 a year. An undetermined but slzeahle part of these savings will be in dollars which she uses to help supply the troops. Britain also expects to save $132,- 000,000 worth oi’ foreign currency through the Government's restric- tions on foreign travel by British subjects. That will mean some lose for the American tourist industry, although many thousands of Brit- ons have been choosing France end Switzerland, rather than dollar CAPITOL TUDAY MID WEDNESDAY Shows 3:30-7-8:45 rot; you numerous FAMILY . “ 4' ~ ..
