Sept. 28th, in the Library Room The special speaker was Capt. Chandelier of Charlottetown, supervisor of the P, E. I. Libraries. In a most inter- esting and entertaining manner he told of the early beginnings of the splendid library system of the province in 1921, when the Carneige Foundatin gave s most generous grant for three years and in 1936 the Provincial Govern- ment took over the libraries. There are now 2t regional libraries in the province from Tlgnish tn Souris with headquarters in Char- lottetown. In O'Leary the Library has been stored in a. building own- ed by the Loyal Orange Associ- ation and that society has very generously given the library use of the upstairs room rent-tree. However. it was brought out at the meeting that the building may possibly be sold and the. library has to look for other quarters. In addition it was felt that the circulation of boolrs at Obeary end the general interest of the people in their library oould be greatly improved, so a temporary committee was formed to report in a. large public meeting of all interested citizens on or before December first, This, committee will consider ways and means of furthering the interests of the library and will make recommend- ations which will be presented to the general meeting. The chair- man o fthe committee is Rev. W. G. Dickson, Other members are Mr. J. Field, manager of the Bat of Nova Scotla, Mrs. Fred Champ- ion. Mrs, John Matthews of the teaching staff and like. Edwin Turner. A hearty vote of thanks was extended to the hardworking and obllging librarian. Mrs. Claude Jelly for her invaluable services and also to Mr. Chandelier for his fine address, Mr. Peter Pate was chairman of the meeting and Mr. Lewis MacKenzie, principal of Oltesry School was secretary. - s. 1a....
