THe Quesec Frre.—-The big fire in Ques bec on Sunday was in that section of the city known as Cape Blanc, which lies be- tween St. Lawrence and the Cliffs just west of Cape Diamond harbor. Seventy-lve families were rendered homeless. ‘The water pressure was utterly inadequate and the firemen were helpless The houses were mostly wooden, belonging to laboring men. A man named QOuelette, suspected of having started the fire, narrowly escaped lynching at the hands of the mob. —__--———= Wonperrut Expurance.—At Beacon Park, Boston, on Saturday, a horse owned by Malcolm Thomas trotted 50 miles in four hours and thirty-seven minutes. The trotting was the outcome of a wager of $1000 ‘o $2.00, that the horse could not trot 506 miles in five hours. The first mile was made in five minutes, and each succeeding mile was covered very close to the same time. The entire distance of fifty miles was made ia 4 hours and 37 minutes. Four stops were made, and taking out the time for resting (20 minutes),the actual time on the track was 4 hours and 17 minutes. Strange to say, the horse was in excellent condition after com- pleting the 50 miles, and was, to all appear- ances, able to go another 10 miles at the same pace. The animal that showed this wonderful speed and endurance weighs on'y 720 pounds. aidisiiiianintiit For Over Firry Years Mrs. Winasloe’s Soothing Syrup has been used by millions of mothers for their children while cutting teeth.
