J J. oiiald. has p-`Q (J C7 which the old church was some time n o rem-g\ ed and commanding a magnificent view of a siirpassinuly beautiful sec iion of the Province, cf which it is the landmark for many miles ou all sides ,is the new church of bt Malachi, hinkora, which ig Saw rapidly approaching co - pletion, and which will be opened for di- vine warship. with the imposing cere- monial provided for such occasions, on Sunday, July :list next. It is certainly gem among the Island churches, and it is afit settinll for its lovely surroundin . Such a structure is a credit to the diocese, to the zealous and popular pastor. Rev. John J. MacDonald, and to the people of Kinkgra, who are to be congratulated upon having such a fine place of worship which will, we understand beclear or just about clear cf debt when opened. This ca Szandiiix on thc high ground from 8 m a RS grand result is due to the lndefatigable efforts of Father John, and the practi l unity, harmony and good will with which the parishioners seconded him in the un- dertaking, ~ The new church is cruciform in shape and twelfth century Gothic in style of ar- chitecture. It is 118 feet in length 65 feet in width across the transept, and 45 feet across the cave, with a sacristy 36.x 20 feet on the western or Gospel side of the sanctuary. There is a basement under the whole bnilding, with walls of Island sand- stone. The exterior is very handsome in- deed, the tower buttresses. cierestory, large traceried windows, in the transepts and over the main entrance, the Gothic pnchen mi doors, in keeping with the style of architecture adopted, giving the 82 tive appearance. The front has a lar central entrance, with traceried windows above it, and on the left is a square tower with round buttresses carried to the height of twenty feet, surmounted with a large, light and a vary graceful spire, and a Celtic cross finished in gilt. To the right of the main entrance is a shapely round tower, carried to a height of about thirty feet, the lower part of which will be used as a baptistry, above which will be a store room for books and other choir belongings. The transept gables are also handsomely finished with large traceried windows as noted above, and over the in- tersection is a beautiful campanile sur- mounted with a gilt Cross. The sacristy and entrances are in keeping with the general plan of the structure. The whole exterior of the building is characterized by massiveness, grace and beautv that are exceedingly attractive and effective. The features that first strike one on entering are the spaciousness and bright- ness of the interior. The transept and choir windows, already referred to, and the sanctuary and clerestory windows Hive a flood of light which appears to be equally diffused throughout the building no pxrt of which is in the least dark. (We are informed that there are no "Susquenorians`° in Kinkora.) There will be centre and side aisles and the 9, Dews will be finished in hard wood with a handsome finish of ornamental woods. The Chancel, which is large and beautifully linished and lighted, and which has a hard Wood floor, is one of the finest we have seen anywhere. It is B0 8 Seven-'aided apse 28 x 23 feet with 5h3D@5Y “'i0‘l0'*'s, which are intended be of stained glass, with representations ofthe crucifixion, the Immaculate Con- Sacred themes.
