No serious injuries sustained Go West, young men, and women also, and attend the annual picnic of St. James’ Sabbath School, at West River, to-morrow. An excellent day's amusement may be expect ed. The Southport will leave Ferry Wharf at 9.30 a.m., and at 2 o’clock p. m. A Lerrer from Capt. Joseph McDonald, of the brigt. ‘*Reata,” reports that while on the recent passage from Georgetown to Honfleur, France, in latitude 21, W., he lost one of the crew named Daniel Gillis, supposed to belong to Rollo Bay. Gillis was a carpenter, and worked at the building of the ‘‘ Reata.” He was swept over by the main-gaff, and was drowned before any assistance could be given. Tue ‘* Golden Gate,” the smallest craft that ever started for a trip around the world, left New York on Monday afternoon for Cape- town. She is schooner rigged, 19 feet long, 2} feet depth of bold, and 1.17 ton burthen. Her crew, Captain H. F. Burrim and first officer Andrew B. Conn, are both experienced navigators, and are confident of making a safe voyage. Missioynaky Meretinc. — The Rev. Mr. Christie, Presbyterian Missionary at Trinidad, will address a public meeting in St. James’ Church on Thursday evening, at 8 o’clock, on the nature and results of the missien work in that interesting tield. The meeting will also be addressed by the Rev. Dr. Murray. A collection will be taken up in aid of the mis- sion. The public are cordially invited to at- tend, Ix working their lime quartz, the Albert, N. B., Brick Lime Cement Company have opened a vein of phosphate of lime, which promises to be of great importance to the agri- cultural and conumercial interests of New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and P. E. Island. This valuable fertilizer is just what is needed to restore exhausted landsfto theirforiginal productiveness, ar.d keep our farming popula- tion at home. Last Nicut the police raided another house of ill-fame. It was kept by Mrs. Ellen Black- burn, and is situated on Kent Street. Mrs, Blackburn was arrested in company with a re- spectable looking young man—a stranger in the city, He gave forty dollars as bail for his appearance before the Stipefidiary Magis- trate this forenoon, but left for parts unknown during the night. This morning Mra. B. was arraigned. Her twelve years’ old daughter gave evidence against her; and, on this evi- dence, she was convicted of keeping a brothe!, and sentenced to three months imprisonment, with hard labor.
