The evening costume is very elaborate, just as I think such cos- tumes should be. The afternoon or reception gown is a splendid ex- ample of elegant simplicity. The latter I call an Autumn leaf gown. lt is developed iu soft, sup- ple brocado that is just the shade of maple leaves when they have turned a deep shade of red. As the fabric is so ornate I have not used any decoration on the gown. _for the real lace collar can hy no means be called trimming. The __ _ 5,, girdle and sash ends are of shaded green and brown ciiiifuiis. From shouler to iiei.n the gown is absulutel plain. Even the sleeves are sdverely long and plain, as you will notice. ’l.‘iil.i is the cor- rect sleeve lor the \\`ini.or oustuind No other is iitiiiiissiblc, ii you want to be ultra stuart. The hat worn with this eliarmliii.: gown is a reddish-hroivn sutlu beaver, having as its only decora- tion a long quill of green and gold. The muif is ti. large iiat uliair ot mink. The small itat shown in the cen- tre picture is one of tlio gold velours that Paris has adopted for Small Mountaineer Hat of Gold Velvour, Trimmed with Band of Mink Mur, and Large Pompom of Brown and Gold Feathers on Side.
