In either case a French re-conquest of the region will be made more diificult. According ‘to the report of Assessments Commissionor Pratt, Ottawa’s population is now 49,674. Last year it was 47,774 au increase in the year of 1,899. The as- sessment this year is $21,239,270, last year it was $19,799,095.
