YN = young naturalists encouraged to attend or participate Apr. 9 to 15 - National Wildlife Week with the theme "Migration - An Incredible Journey" and Earth Week. April 15 - Birders are invited to join the Seabird Monitoring project using observations points on the coast of Prince Edward Island. Birders will be located at North Cape, West Point, East Point, Cape Bear and possibly other coastal migration points. Contact Dan McAskill (569-43 51) for more information. Apr. 22 - The Natural History Society will host an Owl Hoot. Car pool from the Farm Centre in Charlottetown at 9:30 pm for this 2 to 2.5 hour outing to use taped calls to attract owl responses. May 2 - The sixth of a six evening bird identification course being taught by Dan McAskill and Ray Cooke for members of the Natural History Society of Prince Edward Island. The course is held at the Farm Centre 430 University Ave. It starts at 7:00 pm and runs for 45 minutes. May 2 - Bob & Jacob Harding will be the Natural History Society's guest speakers with the topic "The Dragonflies and Damselflies of Prince Edward Island". The meeting starts at 7:45 pm at the Farm Centre at 430 University Avenue. May 2 to Jun. 24 - the Macphail Woods nursery will be open for sales Tuesday through Saturday, 9 am - 5 pm. We will also be open Sunday May 14 and Sunday May 21- Monday May 22. Afier June 24, the nursery will be only open during special events and workshops or by appointment. May to 7 to 13 - National Forest Week theme Canada’s Forests Learning from the Past, Building for the Future. May 13 - International Migratory Bird Count. Please record any birds you see by county and send the results to Dan McAskill Count Coordinator for P.E.I. May 13 - Bird Identification Walk along the trails of Macphail Woods, looking at year round residents and returning migratory birds. Begins at the Homestead at 8 am. May 19 - Arbor Day. Please plant a native tree or shrub for wildlife enhancement. Free Arbor Day booklets are available from the Island Nature Trust at 566-9150. May 21 - Tree and Shrub Identification Walk along the trails of Macphail Woods. Tour will leave from the nursery at 1 pm. May 20 - YN The Natural History Society will host an amphibian field trip with Maurice Roy to listen and identify , frogs and to look at pond life. Please register for this count with Eric Marcum 628-8998. May 23 - Bird Identification Walk along the trails of Macphail Woods, looking at year- round residents and returning migratory birds. Begins at the Macphail Homestead at 8 am. May 27 — Bain Bird Count. Get together with a friend or two and spend the day looking for birds around the Island. Submit results to Dan McAskill the Count Coordinator. Jun. 3 - Wildflower Walk with Dr. Katherine Clough, author of "Wildflowers of Prince Edward Island".
