MDDONALII There passed away in the City Hospital on August 13th, J. Alex- andor McDonald in his 48th year. after an illness of three weeks. "Alex". as he was known by his numerous friends. was born in Vernon River, and after primary school entered 8. D. U. for n time in preparation for his studies as a pharmacist. and later began this study with his brother, Aeneas wh.; operated a Drug store in Tignlsh. he afterwards entered Foley's Drugstore. Slunmerside, latex re- turning to Tignish to operate the Drug business during the Llness and death of his brother. In Tignish and summ aloe, he made a host. of friends by his pleas- lns. quiet manner. and readiness to help in everything that was pene- ficial to the Community. He was a member of the Knights of Colum- bus. and did much to further the aims of that organization. both in Bummerslde and Ttgnish. As .1 member of the Tigrrlsh Drsmntt: Group he was indispensable. and it was with regret that the commun- ity saw him leave. to again enter 8. D. U. to prepare himself for another field of duty: but fate bsxl already decided his future and war clouds gathering over Europe burst in its fury in his graduating year. with much to offer and with. that ever ready eagerness to "help". he offered his services im- mediately and was posted in the Royal Canadian Army Medical Corps. where he served with dis- tinction which was recognized by promotion to the rank of Sgt. which rank he held for some years prev- ions to demobilization. Returning to civilian life he mar- ried Miss Estelle Bren-nan of Tig- nlsh. and moved to Dorchester. N. B., where he accepted an im- portant. position in the dispensary of the penal institution of that city, where he again served with distinction. But his years of active service had taken its toll. and he was forced to retire in October. 1949 on account of ill health, and returned to Tigntsh. But his life had been too full to be long, and a greater reward than retirement was awaiting him, for he who had given so much was now to receive not the blare and emptiness of eurthlv praise but the approval of the heavenly Father in the words, "Well done good and faithful ser- vant. enter lnto the joy of the Lord."
