A Cairo correspondent says Foreign Con suls have visited the Khedive and informed him that his deposition in favor of Halim Pasha has been decided by the Porte. The Consuls urged his abdication, promising a written guarantee to Tewfik Pasha. The Khedive demanded, as conditions of abdi- cation, that his family be provided for and his abdication be made into the hands of the Sultan. The Consuls replied that the latter condition was inadmissable, and con- sequently withdrew their offers. Lonpon, June 26. It is believed in diplomatic circles that the Porte will consent to the abdication of the Khedive. New York, June 26. The following is a telegram from Cairo, Egypt :— ‘** The British and French Consuls waited upon the Khedive at 3 o’clock in the morn- ing, and were admitted to his sleeping chamber. When the question of his resig- nation was broached, the Khedive fell into a tewering passion, and declared that before he would abdicate he would resort to arms. He absolutely refused to listen to any sug- gestion concerning Halim Pasha becoming his successor. *‘ Meanwhile military preparations are continually being made, and complications are hourly expected. The report of the Khedive’s departure for Constantinople! te hand his abdication te the Sultan, js herefore premature. Great excitement | exists.” FROM ENGLAND. Lonvon, June 2¢, In the Lords to-day, the Marquis of Salis- i bury confired the report that the Sultan had ordered the Khedive to abdicate and that the latter expressed his acquiescence. Prince Tewfik, the new Khedive, held a reception to-day which was attended by Foreign Consuls, Egyptian Officials, and all notable Eurepeans in Cairo.
