' Satisfaction with the programme outlined by the White Commission in considering revision of Maritime Subsidy claims was expressed oy Premier MacMillan, who retumed Saturday evening from 0ttawa,i where he attended the first formal session of the Commission. The pro-i cedbre, as announced, provides (1) for the filing with the Commission by the Premiers of each of the Maritime Provinces briefs covering their respective cases on or before November 15; (2) for the fyling of a brief in reply by counsel for the Do- minion, on or before December 20; and (3) for a. meeting of counsel for the provinces and the Dominion with the Commission at Ottawa on January 10 for the purpose of argu- ment upon the briefs submitted. The terms of reference of the Commission are deemed sufficiently broad to permit the fullest rcview of the financial arrangements between the Maritimes and the Dominion Govemment. This, Premier Mac- Millan believed, was an important -factor. and indicated the desire of the Dominion Government t‘.et the inquiry should be as complete and ,thorough as possible. With the personnel of the Com- -mission, and thier sympathetic at- titude towards the Provinces, the Premier also expressed satisfaction. ,_Chief Justice Mathleson, member of the Commission chosen unanim- ously by the Maritime Provinces. al- an _returned Saturday night.
