ERS.-The Normal Course in Oratory
is conducted by Miss Bertha F. M.
Gorniun. These classes begin at 8.30
a.m., until noon with attendance of
nearly sixty in each division.. in the
course ot her lectures Miss Gorman
deals with the fundamental principles
of the voice-breathing. vehicle on
which the voice rides, the different
methods, false and correct methods of
breathing are demonstrated in class,
exercises for tone production, breath
control, tone colouring, correction ot'
voice detects, voice acoustics demon-
strated by drawing on visible speech,
are given due attention, so that our
teachers may have a more adequate
knowledge of the principles under-
lying expressive reading. At 2.30 p.n1.
Miss Gorman holds daily classes in
expressive reading "in the hall, which
teachers from different divisions
attend. In this work the Third and
Fourth Readers are used as text-
,liooks, and individual platform work is
conducted with criticismc from pupil
teachers and Miss Gorman. Discus-
sions are held on reading as conducted
in the island schools, and suggestions
given by Miss Gorman along the line
of expressive reading.
