Also, feminists don’t lash out against ‘‘all men’’. It the men that hold the power, those who direct our lives, that we are against. Many men, right here on our campus, are feminists and believe in feminist values but are first too ashamed to admit it. This is due to the distorted picture that many people (like you Mr. Editor), point of feminists. I would also like to know who the women are that use half-truths and misquoted to prove their point. Per- haps you could give us an example to prove your point. Radical feminists are no different from other feminists. We are all striving fora common goal. It’s the people who spend most of their time and energy on this movement who are labelled ‘‘radical’’. Yet it is due to their efforts that women today enjoy many rights they never had before (ie the right to vote) Some people (like me) just don’t have the same amount of time to spend fighting for feminist goals, but that doesn’t make us any less of a feminist. Finally, it isa well known quote that behind every great man there is a.women. Perhaps if feminists achieve what they are striving for and the structure of patriarchy is destroyed, anew quote will evolve: ‘*Behind every great woman, there isa man.’”’ In conclusion, I strongly suggest that you redirect you editorial concerns away from your own one - sided views and toward more important issues that reflect the concerns of the student body such as ‘ ‘safe pas- sage’’, closure of the CEC on campus, rising tuition, government cutbacks, tax on student loans and maybe even the establishment of and undergrad degree in women’s studies at UPEI! Libby Whelon A Feminist and a Smoker. Dear Editor: I would like to take this opportunity to thank the UPEI Theatre Society for allowing me the opportunity to direct one of their fall presentations. This is my senior year and it was a wonderful experience! Yes, their were miscommunications, mess ups, missed classes, andnow ALL my papers are due! but whata great time I had working with such a high calibre of students! Ican also chalk this experience up in many : other categories other than theatrical. I plan to teach and allowing me to participate in a two-way respect of opinions, ideas and creativity canonlybeoftremen- | dous benefit in the future. I would also like to men- tion the personnel involved in this massive three-way production. The list is too long to thank each person that helped me along the way but you all know who you are and I ameternally grateful. To those of you I have just met - I consider you a friend and all that entails. To old friends - a big HUG! To those who hung out at my house at The Big Party, I must say I had second thoughts about offering my house up for the night but I put my trust in all of you and you paid me back a thousand-fold! You were all polite, intelli- gent human beings who acted that way and I awoke to a clean house and a good feeling. The bottom line to this experience - we have some great students on this campus and when given the opportunity to strut their stuff- WOW! Thanks everyone! Sincerely, Dawn Ambler UPEI X-P RESS November 21, 1991
